I remember when I could work one job in District 11 and support myself.
The new reality is that in order to support yourself in Denver, you have to earn at least $34 per hour. The middle class is quickly becoming the working poor.
As your city councilperson, there are some some actions I will take to support the most economically oppressed in our great city, including the differently abled population that is also financially vulnerable. I believe in empowering people in to achieve financial stability.
Creating small businesses is one way to lift people out of poverty. Our small businesses could benefit from accelerators and incubators to help our entrepreneurs grow and sustain their economic viability.
District 11 needs zoning for small businesses, co-working spaces and training sites. Employee owned and invested businesses promise sustainability. We need to build communities from the inside out by investing in each other instead of our hard earned dollars leaving the district.
